Newfoundland Saga

Newfoundland Saga is an honest guide to living in Newfoundland, written for international students, immigrants, newcomers, and anyone who has come from away.

CFA — Come From Away — is what Newfoundlanders call people who are not originally from here. Sometimes it is affectionate. Sometimes it is funny. Sometimes it is a reminder that belonging takes time.

This site begins from that position: close enough to know, but still far enough to notice.

Official guides are useful, but they often leave out the things people only learn after arriving: how long winter feels, how limited public transportation can be, why finding housing is difficult, why people can be warm and hard to read at the same time, and what it means to belong somewhere that still sees you as someone from away.

There are no sponsorships, no tourism-board partnerships, and no attempt to make Newfoundland look easier than it is.

These are simply notes from life on this island — a one-person journal about the things I am still learning here.
